About Me.

Roxanne Lanette Young is a Denver, Colorado-native dance artist, performer, choreographer, and educator whose work is rooted in modern and contemporary forms, improvisation, and community-centered practice. She began her training at her mother's studio, Expressions of Dance and Arts Academy, and at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School, where she developed a strong technical and expressive foundation.

From 2003 to 2006, Roxanne attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX, performing with the Advanced Repertory Dance Company. In 2006, she was named a Finalist in Modern Dance by the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts (now YoungArts). She continued her training at the University of Utah's Department of Modern Dance from 2006- 2009, where she expanded her performance and improvisational practice. During her junior year, she performed with the world-reowned vocalist Bobby McFerrin at Kingsbury Hall in Spring 2009--an experience that continues to inform her relationship to improvisation and live performance.

Roxanne's professional career includes dancing with Dallas Black Dance Theatre II (2010) and the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, where she joined the second company in 2011 and was later promoted to the main company performing for three additional seasons. In 2016, she joined Elisa Monte Dance under the direction of Tiffany Rea-Fisher, and in 2017 appeared as a featured dancer in Janelle Kroll's music video Barricade.

As a freelance artist, Roxanne has collaborated with a wide range of choreographers and companies, including Nathan Trice/RITUALS, Heidi Latsky Dance, Gesel Mason Performance Projects, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Yara Travieso, Susie McHugh, JoVonna Parks, AThomasProject, Clymove Dance, Emotions Physical Theatre, Bloodline Dance Theater, MoveDipr, Jennifer Cox Dance Company, and Nu-World Contemporary Danse Theater. On November 11, 2024, she reunited with Bobby McFerrin for an improvised performance with Bobby McFerrin & Motion at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, California.

Alongside her performance career, Roxanne is a dedicated educator, teaching creative dance, ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz to students ages five through adulthood. She has taught at institutions including the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Academy, Purelements, Booker T. Washington for the Performing and Visual Arts, National Enrichment Group, Marcia Brooks/Various Works, Peridance Center, and Brooklyn United. She also served as a Horton Technique Assistant to Milton Myers at The Ailey School and Steps on Broadway.

Roxanne's choreographic work has been presented through residencies and performances at MODArts Collective Thread, 12x12 showcase, Judson Church, Alpha Omega Studio (Studio to Stage), Spoke The Hub (Director's Choice), and the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, California. Her artistic practice centers on improvisation, theatricality, and storytelling, with an ongoing commitment to collaboration, cultural dialogue, and community engagement.
